Stephen King‘s latest novel, The Outsider, is being adapted into a 10-episode series by MRC Studios and Aggregate Films. Jason Bateman is set to direct and star in the project which is scheduled to begin filming in February.
The series will follow investigators in a small Oklahoma town who are confounded over an unspeakable crime that’s been committed: an eleven year old boy’s violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City’s most popular citizens. He is Terry Matiland: Little League coach, English teacher, husband and father of two girls. Matiland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? Is there a monster much scarier than anyone ever imagined?
Bateman will play Maitland, who is investigated by Detective Ralph Anderson, a role we’ve learned will be filled by Ben Mendelsohn for the role of Anderson. The series will work off a screenplay from Richard Price who wrote the 1986 film The Color of Money and the 2016 HBO series The Night Of.
