Daredevil Gets the Axe
Netflix just announced that Daredevil will not be coming back for a season 4. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix offered the following:
“Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”
Daredevil was the first series to be adapted by Netflix, followed by Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and most recently, The Punisher, the original four also had one season of a team-up series, The Defenders. The past few months have also seen the cancellation of both Iron Fist and Luke Cage, while many people had been hoping that might lead us to a Heroes for Hire team-up show, with Daredevil now gone as well, I think the chances of that have slimmed quite a bit.
Now what?
Only time will tell if the remaining two shows, Jessica Jones and The Punisher will continue past their upcoming seasons or whether they’ll get the axe as well. While I can’t really say either way, we’ll probably be hearing one way or the other in the next couple of months, if I was a betting man,I’d put my money on being cancelled. With the oncoming release of Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, it would make sense that Netflix would rather work on acquiring new licenses rather than work with Disney who they will be directly competing with.
What do you guys think? Will Jessica Jones and The Punisher get another season or is new content from Marvel done on Netflix? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
