By now most Star Wars fans have heard about to so-called “Trevorrow script” for Star Wars: Episode IX that’s made its way to the Internet. From what we understand, that would have given the film a much different treatment than what we saw in The Rise of Skywalker. Recently leaked concept art for Episode IX seems to suggest that, regardless of whether J.J. Abrams or Colin Trevorrow directed, we also could have gotten a much darker version of the film that what we ultimately received.

A slew of leaked concept art images appear on Reddit, all purporting to be legitimate art for Star Wars: Episode IX. I say Episode IX as opposed to The Rise of Skywalker on purpose. It seems that some of the images may very well have been from Trevorrow’s version of the film. Those include the rumored “Oracle”. Multiple images depict the spider-like creature perched atop a giant baby head of some sort. Could this be the previously referenced Tor Valum? These and some of the other images are downright cringe-worthy.

It isn’t just the grotesque images of the Oracle that make fans cringe, however. Multiple images show Kylo Ren torturing Chewbacca. (That’s a scene Abrams wisely left out of the final cut. It was hard enough watching Chewie agonize over Leia’s death. Had he been tortured there might have been riots.)

Another piece of the leaked concept art depicts Rey holding a lightsaber to Kylo Ren’s throat. She appears ready to decapitate him. Clearly in that scene Rey has embraced the Dark Side within her much more than we saw in The Rise of Skywalker.

Kylo Ren also appears to visit the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, as was rumored in the Trevorrow script. Otherwise, much of the leaked concept art shows events that did, in fact, take place. From Rey and Kylo dueling on the Death Star to the chase on Passana, it all seems to be there.
