Anyone keeping up with Star Wars news will assuredly be familiar the ranting and ravings of Mark Hamill and his disappointment with the direction of the franchise. But was he just in being upset with the situation?

He recently did an interview with Den of Geeks UK to discuss season 2 of Knightfall for The History Channel where he will be playing Talus, a Templar master. But even after vowing never to speak of Star Wars again, he ended up breaking that vow and discussed some interesting details.

One being, of course, an interaction with director Rian Johnson. ‘They had me walking by 3PO, not even acknowledging him. I said: “I can’t do that! He (Rian Johnson) said, “Okay, go over and do whatever.” So, I went over, and I did whatever. They say it in the script: “Forget the past, kill it if you have to”, and they’re doing a pretty good job!’

Mark Hamill Displeased With Treatment of Original Trilogy Characters

Hamill also expressed his disappointment in the three (Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford) not having a reunion on screen of some sort and the timing of Han and Luke’s death in the current trilogy.

“I just thought, Luke’s never going to see his best friend again. You look at it in a self-centred way. I said that it was a big mistake that those three people would never reunite in any way. I guess I was wrong, because nobody seems to care! I have to stipulate that I care, but it didn’t really seem to affect the larger audience. Luke, Han and Leia will never be together again, and I’ll probably never get to work with Harrison again.

Hamill continued:

Then the second thing was that they killed me off. I thought: oh, okay, you should push my death off to the last one. That’s what I was hoping when I came back: no cameos and a run-of-the-trilogy contract. Did I get any of those things? Because as far as I’m concerned, the end of VII is really the beginning of VIII. I got one movie! They totally hornswoggled (tricked) me.”

There is a true disappointment in his words when talking about could have been and what should have been. He is not only one of the stars of the franchise but is also a huge fan. His words ring sentiment to how a majority of fans feel (or should feel) about this new trilogy. The direction is leaving fans divided on their loyalty to the brand and with Episode IX almost 9 full months away, we will see how much damage control can be done.
