Finally! JJ Abrams confirms that he has wrapped principal photography on Star Wars: Episode IX. The first “official” word we’ve gotten from the set of the final Skywalker saga film comes from Abrams himself via Instagram:
As you can see, the photo depicts the three, main protagonists of the Star Wars sequel trilogy: Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Isaac) in a warm embrace. (Interestingly, it looks as if Daisy Ridley is holding Rey’s staff from The Force Awakens. You can see the end of it behind Oscar Isaac’s back.) So what does a wrap of photography mean?

The JJ Abrams Instagram announcement comes after both Anthony Daniels and Jimmy Vee, C-3PO and R2-D2, respectively, announced they’d filmed their last scenes for Episode IX. The end of principal photography coupled with yesterday’s rumor that UK cinemas received copies of the teaser trailer has fans understandably very excited.
John Boyega, unlike the furtive JJ Abrams, is no stranger to stirring up social media. He did, after all, post this little nugget on Instagram recently:
Today, however, Boyega quickly followed up on the JJ Abrams post with another of his own. In it he personally thanks Abrams and tells supporters “See you SOON”, further fueling the rumor that a trailer is now imminent:
We still have a long to go before Episode IX hits theaters (December 20, to be exact). If the UK rumor is true, the trailer could hit any time within the next couple of weeks. After all, Disney owns Captain Marvel, which debuts March 8…. Perhaps JJ Abrams will have another update for us soon.
