[ARTICLE UPDATED October 9, 2020. See below.) Fans were understandably upset when Star Wars: The Clone Wars was cancelled. That disappointment quickly waned as fans embraced and grew to adore its replacement, Star Wars Rebels. Disappointment loomed again, however. While The Clone Wars is literally back by popular demand, Rebels was cancelled in favor of another animated offering, Star Wars: Resistance. Sadly, this time, there is no silver lining. Resistance has failed to deliver in most respects.
There is some good news for Rebels fans, however. This fall you can purchase your own, little piece of Rebels… in hardcopy. Dark Horse Books and Lucasfilm have teamed up to bring us The Art of Star Wars Rebels, an anthology collection of artwork and anecdotes from those responsible for delivering four seasons’ worth of tales from the Rebellion’s early stages. According to an exclusive IGN report, the book will offer:
… a behind-the-scenes look at the artistry that went into the show with never-before-seen concept art and process pieces along with exclusive commentary from showmakers Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Carrie Beck provided by writer Dan Wallace.”
The Art of Star Wars Rebels
Judging by what we’ve seen of the show, this offering should immediately jump to the top of any Star Wars fan’s reading list. Joining The Star Wars Archives, The Art of Star Wars Rebels will provide extraordinary insight into the galaxy far, far away and the creative process behind the franchise and the show, in particular. Remember, Rebels brought us the incredibly poignant Mortis story arc. It also gave us the heartbreaking battle between former Jedi master and apprentice, Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and Ahsoka Tano. The visuals of those two stories alone could make this purchaser worth it.
No, regrettably, Rebels is no more. Notwithstanding, Kanan Jarrus, Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, Zeb and Chopper can now live on… on your coffee table.
UPDATE: The Art of Star Wars Rebels was originally slated to go on sale worldwide on October 1, 2019. The release date was unfortunately pushed back to March 17, 2020. It is still available for pre-order at retailers everywhere.
