Marvel 616 is a new documentary series focused on the entirety of the Marvel Universe. The twist of it is that each episode is focused on a singular aspect of that universe. For episode 2, “Higher, Further, Faster” focuses on the women of Marvel. Not the characters however, it focuses on the women who helped make Marvel what it is today. Gillian Jacobs of Girls and Community is the director for this episode. It highlights the trailblazing women in the comic book industry.

Episode 4 is led by Paul Scheer of The League, The Disaster Artist, and more. “Lost and Found” focuses more on the forgotten, or misplaced characters of the Marvel Universe. Each episode promises to bring the director’s vision to life about an important aspect of Marvel.

Following this at Comic-Con@Home, you’ll be able to join Paul, Gillian, and Executive Producers Sarah Amos and Jason Sterman with moderator Angélique Roché tomorrow. This panel will go over the various aspects of the show and allow for fans to ask questions.

Here’s what Marvel has to say about the show:

Marvel’s 616 explores how Marvel’s rich legacy of stories, characters and creators exist within the world outside your window. Each documentary, helmed by a unique filmmaker, explores the intersections of storytelling, pop culture, and fandom within the Marvel Universe. Films in this anthology series will cover topics including Marvel’s world-spanning artists, the trailblazing women of Marvel Comics, discovering the ‘forgotten’ characters of Marvel, and much more.

What To Expect From Marvel 616

The show is sure to be a hit with fans of Marvel. But you can enjoy clips from the two episodes above. It’ll be interesting to see who else they get for directors. I’d love to see an episode that’s off the wall directed by someone like Taika Waititi or James Gunn. It would be cool to see where their influences lie in the Marvel Universe.
