The fall of Cybertron is finally at hand

Talk about tumblers falling into alignment! Netflix just fulfilled a great many cries with their latest announcement. With Transformers near off-line status after the last Micheal Bay movie disaster, Transformers finally righted its errors and now looks to be flying full speed in the direction fans beg for. Coming to Netflix in the near future is the Transformers: War For Cybertron Trilogy, part 1 – Siege. Check out the trailer below:

By the Allspark! People wondered how Netflix could compete in the new age of streaming services. Could it go toe-to-toe with a giant like Disney? Are there too many services for them to survive? Well, if any bite the dust it will NOT be Netflix. The original programming fro Netflix continues to be incredible and with each announcement, they only grow in stature. This series looks to be precisely what fans have been craving since Michael Bay ran the movies into the ground.

Cybertron comes to Netflix: The Negatives

While this latest trailer and announcement looks incredible, there are a few small negatives right now. First off, while we know it will be a trilogy, Netflix did not announce the format of this series. Will it be 10 episodes as is pretty standard? Will it be an actual trilogy of three movies of an unnamed length? We simply do not know right now. Then there is the fact we also lack a release date. 2020 narrows the window, but that remains a 10 month window.

Those issues will sort themselves out. The other issue, which will sadden die hard fans, goes behind Camera. For the first time Peter Cullen will not voice our beloved leader Optimus Prime. In fact the voice talents of this series look to be largely unknown. Then again, watch the trailer. If voice talent drops off at all I cannot tell. The voices sound on mark and perfect for their roles! Here is the official announcement on the cast list:

Cybertron Comes to Netflix: The Positives

One will run out of stars to count before finding the end to the positives list for this announcement. Transformers lay in a wreck post The Last Knight. Fans grew sick of the Bay designs, lack of story and failure to give any of the characters any personality. The mighty Dinobots transformed into one giant joke at this point.

Along comes Bumblebee and the ship seems to be righting itself. It showed the heart and character that directors could pour into this franchise and do it correctly. New films prepare for release following Bumblebee’s example, so let us hope the movie world resets itself in a more true version of the franchise.

Cybertron to Netflix: The Oldest New Story

Of all the versions of Transformers (minus comics), the story of the fall of Cybertron largely remains untouched. A series of books did cover the events leading to its demise, as did a game. Now a comic series (A Bold New Era) follows the politics of the fall, but that is all. The opening of Bumblebee hinted at the final hours of Cybertron, and indeed showed the magnificence of what could be with future movies.

While what happens on Earth is great and what introduces us to the Transformers, the civil war on Cybertron holds some of the best stories to be told. We see our favorites in their early forms and positions, and then watch them evolve into their roles they later hold on Earth. Plus, doing stories on Cybertron allow us to follow and meet far more faces than the few we see on Earth at any given time.

Here is what they had to say about the events that will unfold:

It is the final hours of the devastating civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons. The war that has torn apart their home planet of Cybertron is at a tipping point. Two leaders, Optimus Prime and Megatron, both want to save their world and unify their people, but only on their own terms. In an attempt to end the conflict, Megatron is forced to consider using the Allspark, the source of all life and power on Cybertron, to “reformat” the Autobots, thus “unifying” Cybertron. Outnumbered, outgunned, and under SIEGE, the battle-weary Autobots orchestrate a desperate series of counterstrikes on a mission that, if everything somehow goes right, will end with an unthinkable choice: kill their planet in order to save it.
