As writers and other union members picketed outside the set for Daredevil: Born Again, the decision was made to shut down production on the series for the time being. The New York-based TV series was filming at Silvercup East when members of the Teamster Local 817 and IATSE Locals 829 and 52 refused to cross the picket line. According to people on the ground, production wrapped for the day at 1 PM ET with no filming done for the day. Production could resume tomorrow, but it’s unknown.

Daredevil: Born Again is an upcoming Disney+ Marvel series that is two months into an eight-month production shoot for 18-episodes. The writers/executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord cannot be on set due to the strike. The series focuses on Matt Murdock, an attorney by day and crimefighter by night. Charlie Cox is reprising his role from the Netflix Marvel series Daredevil. Vincent D’Onofrio is also reprising his role as Kingpin from the Netflix series and Hawkeye.

Other announced cast members include Margarita Levieva, Sandrine Holt, Michael Gandolfini, Arty Froushan, and Nikki M. James. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher also is reprising his role. The production joins other shows like Billions, Evil, and Severance that have halted production because of the Writer’s Strike.

We’ll have to see how the strike affects other shows and series that are in pre-production. Stranger Things season five has halted writing due to the strike. Blade, the upcoming Marvel film recently hired a new writer and has also been delayed due to the strike.

Writers are striking to receive fair pay from studios that continue to print money and line their CEO’s pockets.
