After STAR WARS: The Last Jedi was released fans did not take long to let Disney and Rian Johnson know how they felt. Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit had post after post of dislike and hate that flooded the social media platforms. But there are some that may not agree with all the hate but understands where they are coming from. Daisy Ridley is one of those people.

Daisy Ridley thoughts on the backlash

Daisy may not agree with all the hate and unhappiness expressed by STAR WARS fans with The Last Jedi but she understands where they are coming from and believes that they have every right to express their feelings. When doing an interview with USA Today Daisy Ridley was ask if she was surprised with the backlash received from STAR WARS fans. Here is what she had to say:

 “I wasn’t surprised, no. It’s just a different thing.”

“Everyone’s going to have an opinion now anyway on the internet, but I also think it’s fair. If people hold something incredibly dear and think they know how it should be and it’s not like that, it’s fair for people to think they were done wrong. It doesn’t mean they were – ultimately, Rian’s a filmmaker and one person can’t dictate how a film is supposed to be – but freedom of expression, sure.”

Daisy Ridley feels STAR WARS can be fixed

Daisy Ridley believes that The Rise of Skywalker will serve as a satisfying ending to the Skywalker Sage. This is what she had to say about the movie on Good Morning America:

“It’s a brilliant end to the story. JJ and Chris have done an incredible job of wrapping it up, because there are so many references to the nine films. I feel people are going to be satisfied.”

So, will J.J. Abrams come in in save the day with The Rise of Skywalker? Daisy thinks so and I know the fans hope so.

My Thoughts

As a journalist we as well get backlash on some of the stuff we write and I understand where Daisy Ridley is coming from. What I do not understand and will never agree with is the hate and harassment. There is nothing that bad where you have to threaten, harass, and verbally breakdown someone to the point they leave social media. People always say you have to have think skin to be in the spot light but even the thickest skin can be cut.

I can not wait for The Rise of Skywalker. Yeah there might have been a few things that I did not agree with but I am happy we are getting so much STAR WARS content now. As a STAR WARS fan that has been through all the ups and down it will be sad to see the Skywalker Sage end. But I am also ready for some new content as well.
