The assemblage of actors Marvel put together for the Avengers films was certainly impressive. It seems the studio is likewise trying to replicate the casting feat with its next ensemble production, The Eternals. Angelina Jolie and comedic actor Kumail Nanjiani are already attached to the film, with others in talks. Those others now appear to include Salma Hayek.
The Eternals title wasn’t one of the bigger names for Marvel, like the Avengers. Therefore, many fans aren’t yet familiar with The Eternals. Still, it has been a popular Marvel Comics title for decades. The Eternals first broke onto the comic book scene back in 1976. Their story examined the notion of ancient alien beings (Celestials) influencing the evolution of man on Earth. The Celestials created two groups of (mutants?) enhanced humans. First were the god-like Eternals. They also made the demon-esque Deviants. Consequently, the two factions would battle throughout the course of Earth’s history. Hayek will reportedly bring one of the Eternals to life.
Salma Hayek eyed for The Eternals
Salma Hayek (now Hayek Pinault) broken into American cinema in 1995 opposite Antonio Bandaras in Robert Rodriguez’s Desperado. She earned critical acclaim and an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of artist Frida Kahlo in 2002’s Frida. Fans last saw the talented actress in The Hummingbird Project (2018). As The Wrap reports, the actress is in talks to play an as-yet-unnamed role in The Eternals.
In joining the film’s cast, Salma Hayek will team with the aforementioned Angelina Jolie. Jolie is likewise set to play one of the Eternals; the film’s central character of Sersi. Adding additional star power to the production is actor Richard Madden, who you’ll recognize from Game of Thrones and Netflix’s Bodyguard. And let’s not forget – rumor has it that John Wick himself, Keanu Reeves, is also in talks to star in The Eternals.
