Dave Filoni sure does like to tease Star Wars fans. Yesterday was the one year anniversary of Star Wars Rebels airing its last episode. Filoni tweeted a thank you to fans with new picture of Ahsoka and Sabine:

Sadly, Filoni was quick to point out that the rendering of Ahsoka and Sabine was “not a new show”. The drawing was meant simply as a gift and thank you to the fans. you can see the full text of the tweet here:

Granted, I’m skeptical by nature, but this isn’t the first time Filoni has posted something featuring Ahsoka Tano that hints at the future.

Is Filoni Hinting at an Ahsoka and Sabine Story Line?

As we know, Star Wars Rebels ended with Ahsoka and Sabine Wren pairing up. The two would venture off into the outer reaches of the galaxy in search of Ezra Bridger. The drawing Filoni posted on Twitter certainly suggests that he’s been giving that story line some thought. Back on Christmas Day of last year he also tweeted another picture of Ahsoka. That time, he quoted Tolkien:

Still round the corner there may wait; A new road or a secret gate; And thought I oft have passed them by; A day will come at last when I; Shall take the hidden paths that run; West of the moon, East of the Sun.

– J.R.R. Tolkien

That tweet also feature a picture of future Ahsoka.

Now, we know Dave Filoni is a doodler. Thus, probably shouldn’t read too much into these tweets. In the Ahoska and Sabine tweet he specifically said no, this isn’t for a new show. I’m not so sure I believe that. Ahsoka became one of the most popular characters in the franchise. Likewise, Sabine’s character arc over the course of four seasons of Rebels drew fans to her. Reports are that Disney+ is slated to host a slew of new Star Wars series. The prospect of Ahsoka and Sabine having their own series seems almost too good to pass up.

Judging by the way Filoni keeps going back to those characters, perhaps at least subconsciously he thinks so too. Time will tell.
