It looks like Warner Bros is going full steam ahead on all the Aquaman promo! With under two months to go till the release of the film it was learned today that the lucky people of China get to see it two weeks early. Guess I’ll be booking that flight to Shanghai this week! There have been positive first reactions from people that have sen the film but since this is a DC universe film I won’t hold my breath.
Aquaman will get a December seventh release a full two weeks before us and the rest of the world. China in the past couple of years has been the go to market for films making that final push to make those last millions before they end their run. Example look at Warcraft, it bombed horribly in the US grossing $46.6 million. Can you guess how much it made in China? $220.8 Million!!! The Chinese literally helped the film cover its $160 Million budget. Star Wars on the other hand failed miserably in China and only lasted a couple weeks before it left all theaters.
Super Hero films seem to make HUGE business in China, so it’s not a surprise that Warner Bros will be releasing it there first. Only time will tell how American audiences will receive the film. But from the looks of the last couple trailers, DC might be making a comeback.
