Ages Characters Named!
During Comicon JJ Goodman wrote an article on a new Marvel Star Wars series that can be found here. Marvel stated they would be doing a 30 issue Ages comic series that would consist of 10 comics in each of the three Star Wars eras. Each comic would follow a different character in that era. We now know all 30 of the individuals the series will follow. While I do not know if this list is in order, the first two issues listed do match up with the first two issues we are getting in December.
Ages of the Rebellion: Qui-Gonn Jinn, Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jango Fett, Anakin Skywalker, Count Dooku, Padme Amidala, General Grievous
Ages of the Rebellion: Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo, Jabba the Hutt, Lando Calrissian, Boba Fett, Leia Organa, Grand Moff Tarkin
Ages of the Resistance: Rey, Kylo Ren, Finn, Captain Phasma, Poe Dameron, General Hux, Rose, Snoke
What We Might Expect
While I do not know that any of they characters are a surprise and most would be picked if we had to guess, it is still one hell of a list. When it says Ages, keep in mind these ages could span 30-40 years. We could get a Qui-Gonn as a young master or perhaps even Jedi. We could get him mere weeks before his final mission to Naboo. That breadth of time line opens up some fascinating possibilities for many of these characters.
These could all be stories near the movies showing how a certain decision was influenced. Given the Disney/Marvel literary track record however, I doubt that is the case. They have made great use of both books and comics to add great stories and more depth to these characters.
I do not expect all 30 to be exceptional tales that are unforgettable. I also don’t expect the best stories to always be about the major characters. Some might not be that good, but I guarantee some of the least expected issues will be mind blowing.
Going back to JJ’s article, an interesting fact is that each era will be written by a single, different author; Jody Houser for Age of Republic; Greg Pak, Age of Rebellion; and Tom Taylor. This could make for some intriguing cross-overs even though it was stated these are to be mostly stand-alones.
One character I’m a bit sad to not be on the list is Ahsoka Tano. She is one major character that I would have liked to have seen somewhere. Then again, outside of young Snips, her story is still too in motion risk a possible continuity problem. Then again, she is one of the few characters that could literally cross all three Ages!
We do not yet have exact release dates I believe. Marvel and Disney are being very tight lipped about details. Around late November/early December start looking for them at your local comic shops and online.
