Heather Kadin is the co-executive producer for CBS’s sci-fi hit Star Trek: Discovery, entering its second season next year. At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con she talked about what to expect in Discovery Season 2. During an earlier press conference, the show’s producers said there would be a little bit more humor next season. Since the Klingon-Federation war is over, the show is free to explore different themes and concepts.
Boldly Going Where No One has gone before
When asked what the crew will experience in Discovery Season 2, Kadin said, “What’s great is we’re going to go home to Saru’s planet in the second episode for a mission. We’re looking for signals, we end up going to a place we haven’t been before, we just have an opportunity to explore off ship a lot more. Which is nice. And, in a way, where you can really stop down and appreciate that culture.”
Star Trek: Discovery
Star Trek: Discovery is the newest television series for the franchise since the end of Star Trek: Enterprise in 2005. CBS developed the series specifically for CBS All Access, a subscription streaming video-on-demand service. The series is set roughly a decade before the original Star Trek series and is separate from the current Star Trek film franchise.
In the first season, it follows the crew of the USS Discovery as they fight in the Federation-Klingon war. The war concluded at the end of the season and set up the next season with the appearance of the USS Enterprise.
Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green, who is the first black female to lead a Star Trek television series. And her character Michael Burnham is the first leading character that has never been a Starfleet captain.
Heather Kadin Before Star Trek
Before Heather Kadin joined Discovery, she was an executive producer on many other sci-fi television shows. Her credits include Sleepy Hollow, Scorpion, and Limitless. Kadin was also an executive producer on El Rey’s Matador. The series chronicled the rise of popular soccer star Tony “Matador” Bravo.
Star Trek: Discovery’s 13-episode second season hits CBS All Access sometime in Janauary 2019.
