Hasbro Unveils New Star Wars Figures at Unboxing Toy Convention

Production of Star Wars Episode IX has only just begun, and the film doesn’t hit theaters until December 20, 2019. That puts us at roughly 500 days out, for those counting. With such a long span before the Skywalker saga comes to its undoubtedly climactic conclusion, the toy companies  and publishing houses are pulling out all the stops to hold your Star Wars attention until then. Hasbro is just the latest to entice us to open our wallets.

Taking full advantage of the spotlight offered it at Mexico’s Unboxing Toy Convention this past weekend, Hasbro took the opportunity to unveil two new collectibles, figures, one from each of the Black Series and the Vintage Collection.

Hasbro keys in on Leia likeness.

The  vintage collection figure features Leia in her Return of the Jedi Boushh disguise:

Hasbro first announced it would be utilizing its PhotoReal technique for the Vintage Collection at San Diego Comic-Con in July, and Star Wars News Net confirmed that the company will indeed attempt to create a super-realistic likeness of Leia for the Boushh figure, seen here:

Recreating Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The Black series offering depicts a young Han Solo in his Imperial officer uniform during the battle on Mimban as seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The Mimban figure is an interesting choice considering Solo was a relative box office bust. Still, fans enjoyed the film generally, and the Mimban sequence did receive critical praise for its grittiness, so maybe Hasbro is on to something.

These new toy releases come hot on the heels of the other Black Series and Vintage Collection reveals at Comic-Con, and keep Hasbro lock-step with Sideshow Collectibles and other companies vying for consumers’ buying attention during the feature film downtime. The publishers are following suit as well, with Thrawn: Alliances hitting stores on July 24 and announcements of new novels and comic series in the works.

It looks like there will be no shortage of new Star Wars products to keep us entertained until next December.
