Paramount Pictures has officially delayed Top Gun: Maverick to June 26th 2020.
Top Gun: Maverick is the long awaited sequel to the 1986 classic which starred Tom Cruise as hot shot pilot Maverick who was a fighter pilot in the elite Top Gun programme.
The film was originally slated for a July 12th 2019 release date, however Paramount has decided to push the film back a whole year to June 26th 2020.
Paramount have not released an official reason as to why they have decided to delay the film. Deadline who broke the story believe that the film was pushed back so that the studio can use the extra time to help refine and perfect the insane aerial sequences that are set to feature in the film.
Looking back at the first movie which had incredible aerial sequences for the time, it is very exciting to think about what Paramount are cooking up with all of the modern technology and effects that can help make these sequences even more thrilling. This extra production time will allow them to make sure they are the best they can be.
The film still seems to be coming along smoothly however. We have got Joseph Kosinski directing the film, Tom Cruise set to return in the lead as well as other fantastic cast members such as Miles Teller, Jonn Hamm and Ed Harris.
Top Gun: Maverick is definitely a film to keep your eye on as it goes further into production and we will sure be feeling the need for speed as we get closer to release. Top Gun: Maverick is set for release on June 26th 2020.
