It’s only been a couple days since we found out that Alec Baldwin was joining the Todd Philips Joker film as Batman’s father, Thomas Wayne and now he’s announced he’s no longer involved. Speaking with USA Today, he revealed that due to scheduling issues, he’d no longer be able to take on the role, adding in “I’m sure there are 25 guys who can play that part.” Whether that last part was a dig at other actors, the role itself, or just him saying that there are other people who can do it just as well, I’ll leave up to you to decide.
We had originally been hearing that Viggo Mortenson had been up for the role, but had passed on it. Now that the studio is back in casting mode for Thomas Wayne, maybe Viggo will be revisited or maybe they’ll go in a completely different direction.
This incarnation of Thomas Wayne has been described as a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump. Alec Baldwin would definitely fit that mold if we’re looking at his portrayal of Trump on SNL. He’s not wrong though, there are definitely quite a few other actors who could pull that off as well.
What do you guys think? Who else would be a good Thomas Wayne for this version of the Character? Would you rather see someone new take the role or maybe you’d prefer Jeffrey Dean Morgan to reprise the role? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
