Spoiler Free Review: Neil Gaiman’ Sandman is a true classic of our time, in almost all the stories, forms, names, and iterations that have brought him to that place are held in high esteem, iconic to collectors, goths, and readers of all comics and (normal) books. So, setting forth to re-introduce him and his world in 2018 is heavy ordeal, filled with skepticism, worry, doubt, and concern for the characters, world, and stories we love. Especially with Disney’s invention of “Superhero film fatigue” and the continual decline of the Star Wars franchise- Sometimes, it’s better to leave well enough alone.
But not in this case, here Gaimen and his cronies have succeeded where many failed and created a true masterpiece, celebrating what has come before while adding a fresh, vibrant, and beautiful layer to it’s predecessor. The Sandman Universe #1 is fantastic in al it’s forms, form storytelling to art.
And for the record, I was one of those doubters, my Sandman archive is prized in my extensive collection and especially after hearing the conceit of the comic, Sandman goes missing…again, I was not too thrilled of this new series existence. But I was wrong.
The world of the dreaming is back and I couldn’t be happier.
Is this a fortnite ref?!
Ha, ha, ha ha… As anyone who has tried to get a friend or lover to read a Sandman comic knows, explaining anything about this tale is futile and hilariously pointless. You have to read it to know it, and once you read it… you’ll love it.
