We all knew it, we just couldn’t prove it until the end of last week. Jessica Lange will indeed return for the upcoming season of American Horror Story. The Emmy Award winning, fan favorite actress will return to the horror anthology series after a three season break. Lange will be reprising her American Horror Story: Murder House character, matriarch Constance Langdon.
American Horror Story: Apocalypse is the eighth installment of the frightening series, and the much teased and anticipated crossover season that will bring together Murder House and Coven characters in a world-ending showdown. It was theorized and then proven during Freak Show, that all the seasons are interconnected, and now we’ll finally see our favorite characters interacting together. The how’s are still very unknown, especially considering the lead family of Murder House, the Harmons all dies – except for baby Michael Harmon – who apparently, will bring about the end of the world from Apocalype’s title.
It hasn’t been confirmed exactly which witches are returning from Coven – Ryan Murphy has been quoted saying all actresses were invited – however, we do know that along with Lange previous cast members Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Adina Porter, Cheyenne Jackson, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, and Billy Eichner will be returning. Joan Collins will be joining the cast playing that grandmother of Evan Peters character. However, Peters will not be returning as Tate, but as a hairdresser.
FX has released the first glimpse of the world-ending season in a 45 second trailer. Titled “Hourglass”, it features a series of shocking interconnected visuals – first a fetus in the top of an hourglass connected to a beating heart in the bottom half that morphs into a nuclear explosion, and a mushroom cloud. This cloud gives way to two humans sleeping in a big crater (one with a gas mask), who melt into a black skull, that turns into a purple fruit or vegetable filled with black and white scorpions who eat each other. This image turns to a pentagram that’s shattered by a flock birds, revealing an hourglass that explodes again. Finally, a black hand turning the hourglass that, instead of having sand inside, has tiny little skulls. While not scary, per se, the trailer is certainly titillating. American Horror Story usually serves up some good surprises, so it will be interesting to see where this season goes.
American Horror Story: Apocalypse premiers September 12th on FX. Check out the trailer below.
