BATMAN Director Reeves Says Ben Affleck Still Involved

Matt Reeves, the director of Warner Bros’ next Batman film, said Ben Affleck “is still involved” with the movie (via Deadline).  Affleck was originally signed on to write, direct, produce, and star in a solo Batman film.  Reeves is now writing and directing the new film, which leaves Affleck to produce or star in the movie.

Ben Affleck co-writing the script is also a possibility.  Affleck won an Academy Award for Best Original Screen Play for Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with Matt Damon.

Reeves’ Batman

Reeves revealed the status of the film while promoting a new television series on Fox he is producing, The Passage.  At the Television Critics Association, he said a draft of the script will be ready soon and hopes to be filming next year.  Reeves denied rumors that the new film would be an origin story like Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One.  He said he wanted to focus on an emotional story that shows Batman “being the world’s greatest detective.”

Reeves described the film as “noir-driven” with Batman investigating a case that “takes us out into the world of Gotham.”  On the greater cinematic universe, he said, “There’s ways in which this connects to the DC universe as well and we’re one of many pieces.”  When asked about Robin appearing in the film, Reeves said, “I can’t comment on any of that stuff!”
