Kevin Smith Prefers Bale-Batman To Bat-Bud Ben Batfleck’s Bat

Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, starring Christina Bale as the The Batman, was hailed as some of the best Superhero film making of all time. Ben Affleck’s turn at the cape was no where nearly as successful, garnering mostly negative to mediocre reviews, however back in 2013 when Batfleck was announced to be taking up the cape, the Good Will Hunting star’s bat-bud and co-star Kevin Smith backed the casting choice, saying he, “rules as the Batman” and supported him up and down his various twitter, podcasts, and appearances.

Now, apparently, Kevin Smith is changing his tune… or tweaking it slightly. According to????, The Fatman himself, Kevin Smith is now claiming he would have rather seen the Christian Bale Batman to continue his lifespan as the Caped Cruisader in the modern DC Extended Universe, over his friend Ben Affleck’s new Batman.

This doesn’t technically mean he prefers Bale to Ben under the cape, but the character they portrayed. His reasoning is that the Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy should have remained part of the DCEU film series and not rebooted the idea of Batman. He reasons, “It feels like they weren’t saying that Ben was Christian Bale, but they were saying like ,’Oh he’s been around for years he’s not that guy anymore.’ I think I would have preferred it, and this ain’t shitting on Affleck, but as a guy who loved the Nolan trilogy when they announced like hey they’re making Man of Steel and Chris Nolan’s a producer on it, ‘I was like, “Oh f–k man, so that means like his Batman and his Superman will coexist.’ And then ultimately it wound up being Zack Snyder’s Superman and Batman instead. I would have preferred the Christian Bale version just as a continuity freak.” (Fatman on Batman podcast (via Cinema Blend)

While continuity might have helped the franchise, I don’t think it would have saved it. The type of Batman Ben Affleck portrayed might not have changed anything, especially up against the shotty script and terrible storytelling, but in many fan fantasies, the “Martha” scene might not have been so cringe worthy with Christina Bale under the cowl. Then again, it might have been worse.
