Last week it was reported that Jeremy Renner had boarded Todd McFarlane’s upcoming Spawn film. While we cannot confirm whether or not Renner has indeed signed on to do the picture (as of publishing this piece, multiple calls and emails had gone unanswered), we can confirm the role for which Renner was being considered: the film’s lead Twitch Williams.
Back in May, we were the first to report that Jamie Foxx was in talks for the role of Spawn and that Twitch Williams would be the film’s lead. A source with knowledge of the production tipped us off to Renner’s potential role as Twitch, a character described as “an honest detective” who will team up with Spawn as he seeks vengeance for the murder of his young daughter. Foxx recently interviewed Renner for Off Script, an 8-part digital series which see Foxx sit down with some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
Director Todd McFarlane and Blumhouse Studios were looking for a male, 40-50 to fill the role and Renner was on their radar. Should Renner sign on for the role, it would serve as an interesting transition as he potentially wraps his run as Clint Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stay tuned to That Hashtag Show as we will update this story should we be contacted by representatives for McFarlane, Renner or Blumhouse.
