Warner Bros. Brings All the Monsters to Comic Con in First Trailer for GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS

When it was first announced that Godzilla: King of the Monsters—the followup to Gareth Edwards’ 2014 reboot of the monster franchise—would feature Mothra and Rodan and King Ghidorah, I was worried. Along with the big lizard himself and whatever human storyline the movie incorporates, would that just be too much monster for one movie to handle? And would Krampus director Michael Dougherty have what it takes to wrangle all those beasties on the big screen?

We still don’t know if all those monsters are too much for one movie to handle, but after release of the first trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters during Warner Brothers Hall H panel, we at least know that it looks awesome. If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the trailer:

There are a number of simply stunning shots of the monsters in that trailer, although I worry that they might have ratcheted the amount of destruction up a bit to high. Actually, I take that back—seeing Washington D.C. go up in flames is exactly the kind of catharsis I need right now, so bring it on.

In addition to the monsters we also see all of our human cast members, from returning stars Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins, to newcomers Millie Bobbie Brown, Vera Farming and Kyle Chandler.

What else does King of the Monsters have in store? We don’t know yet, but Dougherty promised during the panel that there are a few “surprises.” Considering we already know Ghidorah is in the movie, I can’t imagine what could be a surprise big enough to upstage that, but I guess we’ll find out when Godzilla: King of the Monsters hit theaters on May 31, 2019.
