Anne Rice And Hulu Team Up To Bring Us The Vampire Chronicles

We can’t go too long without vampires gracing our screens, and Anne Rice is back to usher in a new fang-banging era. The Vampire Chronicles are FINALLY headed to the small screen, thanks to Hulu.

Interview with the Vampire, the first in the series, was turned into a beloved 1990’s film starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst and Antonio Banderas. Optioned by Paramount Television and Anonymous Content in April of 2017, the 11 book series will be brought to television with Rice and her son Christopher attached as a writers and executive producers.

Bryan Fuller (American Gods) was previously attached to the project, but has since removed himself, “rather than step on the toes of [his] longtime friends”.

Multiple films have been released based on the series, however when the rights reverted to Rice in 2016, she immediately expressed her desire to turn into a television series. With multiple outlets vying for the project, Hulu has finally put the project into development. The series will follow an 18th century French nobleman, Lestat de Lioncourt, who became a vampire, a rock star, and a world traveler, asking philosophical questions while living a hedonistic life. While the first book was published in 1976, the most recent came out in 2016, and there’s another slated for 2018. The show will not have a want for source material.

The Vampire Chronicles will join several original series’ at Hulu, including the Emmy award winning The Handmaid’s Tale, and the Steven King-inspired Castle Rock, and 1963.
