ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN – WE’RE TALKING ABOUT STRANGER THINGS SEASON 3 AND ARE NOW LEAVING THE STATION!
After a long hiatus, the Duffer Brothers are finally beginning to tease the next season of the 1980’s horror television show, Stranger Things. The new promo isn’t an actual teaser trailer, but a faux-commercial for the newest addition to Hawkins, Indiana — Starcourt Mall. The 90 second, grainy video introduces us to, “one of the finest shopping facilities in America and beyond”.
Um…did malls really look like that?? The commercial dropped me right back into my early childhood with it’s vintage Gap logos, shoutout to the defunct Waldenbooks and Sam Goody, and generally multi-colored cheesiness. The “state of the art food court” features a Hot Dog on a Stick (which still looks the same), and Scoops Ahoy – the new employer of everyone’s favorite baby-sitter, Steven Harrington.
It looks like Season 3 will be taking place during the summer of 1984 – Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” album in the Sam Goody’s window, and the Tom Clancy novel “The Hunt for Red October” in the Waldenbooks window lets us know that much.
The video closes with the words, “Coming next summer!” – which could also give us a time frame for the release of the season.
The mall is evil right? The mall is totally evil. Placing my bets right now. What do you think is going to go down at Starcourt Mall? Place your bets in the comments and check out the trailer below!
