First we were teased with the San Diego Comic-Con variant cover featuring Thrawn and pre-Vader Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. Now Star Wars and Timothy Zahn have revealed that Padme Amidala will also appear in Thrawn: Alliances.
Recently, starwars.com gave us a glimpse at some stunning artwork showing the young senator and former queen of Naboo on a mission to the planet Batuu, brandishing her signature ELG-3A blaster.
Thrawn: Alliances is the much-anticipated sequel to Zahn’s 2017 New York Times Best Seller simply titled Thrawn, and this time pairs the blue-skinned Chiss with Darth Vader, his chief rival for the Emperor’s favor. The synopsis for the book tells us that Thrawn and the then-still-Anakin Jedi crossed paths once before, at which time they “forged an uneasy alliance—neither remotely aware of what their futures held in store.”
Now, it seems, the future mother to the most famous twins in the galaxy will play a part in that story as well.
In the Star Wars exclusive excerpt from the book, we learn that Padme has ventured to the planet Batuu in search of an old friend, but finds herself in peril as a Separatist Vulture Droid plucks her from the sky:
The vulture had nailed her, and she’d never seen it coming. Apparently, the Batuu police pursuit had damaged her ship more than she’d realized. She’d barely had time to kick it high enough to give the escape pod time to deploy before the whole thing began to come apart.
And now, as she burned at a controlled fall toward the hills below, she watched the multiple pieces of the Possibility arcing their fiery way toward the distant landscape.”
Just how Padme will factor into the first meeting between the future Dark Lord of the Sith and the future master Imperial strategist remains to be seen.
Fans will have to wait just a bit longer until the book drops on July 24th… unless you attend SDCC, at which you can purchase the book early with the Thrawn/Anakin variant cover. If you want the Padme poster, however, that’s a Barnes & Noble exclusive.
