11 Iconic Marvel Heroes Missing From the MCU

With Captain Marvel wrapping shortly and Avengers 4 preparing for some reshoots, the production portion of Phase 3 is nearly done, meaning Marvel Studios is turning the page and preparing to move beyond the Avengers-era of films. We know Spider-Man: Far From Home will kick off the next phase, that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will follow it up and that Marvel Studios is developing films around Black Widow, The Eternals and Power Pack in addition to sequels to some of their existing franchises. We’ve also heard rumblings about properties such as Young Avengers, Nova, Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight, but as badly as we want to know what Kevin Feige and crew have in store for us, we really can’t be sure. With that in mind, we decided it might be a good time to take a look at some characters other than those mentioned above who could show up in 2020 and beyond. We’ve also chosen to stay away from the characters that Marvel doesn’t own (YET!) so none of the characters who belong to Sony, Fox or Universal made our list this time around.

Wonder Man

Simon Williams became Wonder Man after being imprisoned for embezzlement, Williams is freed from prison by the Masters of EvilIn return he submits to an experiment at the hands of Baron Zemo which give him “ionic” energy that he eventually used to reach nearly unimaginable powers.  As powerful as any member of the Marvel universe, Wonder Man was often hesitant to use his abilities and often, even in his own head, was labeled a coward.

I used to think that a fourth Iron Man film would be the place to introduce Simon Williams. Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes had a great spin on Williams and, honestly, it would have made for a pretty good start to a film. I don’t think we’ll see a Tony/Simon standoff play out since I don’t expect Tony to survive Avengers 4, so it’s time to start rethinking how Simon can make his way into the MCU. The MCU does still have its Zemo and Stark’s legacy will always be a part of the MCU, so perhaps we’ll see Simon (and even his brother Eric, aka The Grim Reaper) make his way to a Thunderbolts film down the line.
