The San Diego Comic-Con is the place to be for debuts, reveals, and collectibles. With LucasFilm in a bit of a lull between Solo: A Star Wars Story and next year’s release of Star Wars: Episode IX, however, the looming question for San Diego is this: Just what will LucasFilm have of the franchise to offer when the Con opens on July 19?
In addition to Hot Toys collectibles, about which we’ve previously reported here at That Hashtag Show, LucasFilm presents fans with a new Con-exclusive poster spanning the entirety of the Skywalker legacy through three trilogies of films, seen here:
Featuring prominently in the poster are those characters that were or became the main antagonists of each trilogy: Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Sith-upstart Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. Ren’s distinction in the third panel gives the strong implication that Episode IX’s main focus will be the culmination of Kylo Ren’s character arc, and perhaps the ultimate conclusion to the Skywalker saga.
The poster also highlights the heroine of each trilogy, as those characters factored significantly in the creation, demise, and/or development of the featured villain (Padmé as the driving force for Anakin’s turn to the Dark Side; Leia as Vader’s daughter and the catalyst Luke needed to ultimately defeat him, and Rey, as Kylo Ren’s equal in the Force).
The piece is masterful in its depiction of each trilogy, assuring that each panel invokes all three films. For the prequels, we see Obi Wan and his master from Ep. I, Padmé of Ep. II, and Anakin from Ep. III;
for the original trilogy we have Luke of Tatooine, Leia of Hoth/Bespin, and Han at the Battle of Endor;
and, for the current films, Rey of The Force Awakens, and Ren, Luke and Leia of The Last Jedi.
Artfully blending all three eras of Star Wars lore, this piece will make a fine addition to any fan’s collection.
[UPDATE: For those interested, the poster is the work of artist Russell Walks, and will be exclusively available at the San Diego Comic-Con at the Trends International booth located inside the LucasFilm Pavilion.]
