Actor Jon Bernthal (The Punisher, The Walking Dead) has joined Matt Damon and Christian Bale on James Mangold’s Ford vs. Ferrari. Bernthal will play Lee Iacocca, a Ford marketing executive who eventually moved on to serve as the President and CEO of Chrysler. Bernthal boards the project after Jon Hamm turned down the role.
The film, based on A.J. Baime’s 2010 book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans, will star Damon as Carol Shelby, an engineer hired by Henry Ford II to build the world’s fastest car and Bale as race car driver Ken Miles, who helps develop and race the Ford GT-40. The project was initially developed by Tom Cruise and a vehicle for him and Brad Pitt. The film is currently searching several new cast members to join Damon, Bale and Bernthal. Paul Sparks in in negotiations to portray Henry Ford II’s right hand man, Leo Beebe, and Irish actress Caitriona Balfe is in talks for the role of Ken Miles’ wife, Mollie.
