When HBO announced that a Game of Throne Spin-Off series was coming, it was like Willy Wonka had released his golden tickets unto the world and everyone was scrounging through George RR Martin’s holy books to find which stories would make the cut. There were murmurs of 5 sacred scripts in the hands of HBO, but no one knew what the were based on. People ran wild in the street speculating madly, I, myself had money on the Tales of Dunk and Egg series. But the golden ticket has been found and official announcement has been made… and I was wrong.
Comicbookmovie.com reports that HBO has officially greenlit a pilot for one of the five secret GOT scripts they were hording, and the nswer is… well, check it out.
“Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend … it’s not the story we think we know.”
In addition to this tidbit, we also now know that George R.R. Martin will write and show-run the series, along side Jane Goldman. Jane killed it on the Kingsman series, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, X-Men: First Class, and a personal fav in my house, Stardust. She has a particular talent for taking large books and distilling them down to their essence for consumable 2 hour content.
According to the A Song of Ice and Fire series, The Age of Heroes takes place in a time before Westeros was even called Westros. So, no wall, Lannisters, or Casterly Rock- but plenty of White Walkers, Magic, Dragons(?), Children of the Forest and hot guys and girls running around killing everything and everyone.
Sounds like a perfect Game of Thrones show to me!
