Annapurna Pictures has reached out to us and has informed us that the film is currently untitled and that the talent listed below is not accurate at this time. We’ll be keeping our eye on this project and will provide updates as we get them.
In 2016, Annapurna Pictures and the Will Ferrell-Adam McKay led Gloria Sanchez Productions acquired the rights to the Jessica Pressler’s New York Magazine article, The Hustlers at Scores. The article, which ran in 2015, tells the story of a group of strippers, led by Roselyn “Rosie” Keo and Samantha Barbash, who worked together to flip the script on their wealthy, Wall Street clientele and, in an interesting Robin Hood twist, robbed from the rich to pay themselves! Now our sources have told us that the studio is ready to move on producing the film and have eyed Karen Gillan, Jennifer Lopez and Emma Stone to lead the adaptation which will be directed by Lorene Scafaria (Seeking a Friend for the End of the World), who has also tackled the screenplay for the film.
None of the actresses have signed on for the film at this time but negotiations with Lopez are the furthest along while Gillan and Stone are mulling over the offer. If the talented trio take on the roles, Gillan would be the film’s lead, “Daisy” (Rosie), and Lopez would play “Ramona” (Samantha), an older stripper who serves as a mentor to Daisy and the other, younger girls. Stone would be taking on the role of “Jennifer”, a young journalist who befriends Daisy and Ramona. The role is likely based on the article’s author, Jessica. Should the actresses sign on, Annapurna would like to begin production on the film in late 2018/early 2019.
