Star of the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp Michael Douglas has expressed interest in playing a younger version of his character Hank Pym in an Ant-Man prequel film at some point down the road.
We saw a de-aged Michael Douglas as a young Hank Pym in the opening scene of the first Ant-Man movie in 2015 where he was discussing the Pym particle technology with Peggy Carter and Howard Stark as they were looking to use his technology within SHIELD. However Hank wanted nobody to get there hands on the formula for the technology as he knew that whoever had the power would not be able to use it responsibly or correctly, subtly foreshadowing the villainous turn of Darren Cross a.k.a The Yellowjacket who became the main antagonist for Scott Lang to face in the film.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Michael Douglas discussed the possibility of playing a young Hank Pym in his own solo film:
Screen Rant: Where would you like to see Hank go next?
Michael Douglas: Um, well, since we’re on this thing, I’d like to see him, if there’s magic, we do movie magic in terms of flashbacks. How about getting Hank back to his prime age as the Original Ant-Man and kick some serious ass?
Screen Rant: I was just going to ask you that!
Michael Douglas: I’m ready. I’m geared. I need a good stunt double. You know, I’ll find him, but now you can make me look 40 years younger let’s do the whole job!
Marvel are not exactly shy to doing the de-ageing technology on their actors after doing it with Michael Douglas himself in the first Ant-Man as previously mentioned, as well as doing it with Kurt Russell in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2 and also doing it with Robert Downey Jr in Captain America: Civil War. While this de-ageing technology is certainly impressive and rather spectacular, building an entire film around it could prove to be a challenging feat for Marvel Studio’s as having to use that technology consistently would be time consuming but also expensive, and given that the Ant-Man films don’t have as big of budgets and some of the other MCU films, this could be an issue.
However fans would go crazy for this cold war era Marvel movie with a young Hank Pym operating as Ant-Man as a full time superhero alongside a potentially de-aged Michelle Pfeiffer as a young Janet Van Dyne as the original Wasp. You can be sure that this would get fans pretty excited however for now we are just going to have to look forward to Ant-Man and the Wasp which is hitting theatres on July 6th!
