We’re hitting the high seas on this Image Comic! This time around, with an original story of revenge and betrayal with a twist. From the writers of High Crimes and artists of The Black Woods and Felix take you on a unique and amazing adventure aboard the Bellwood.
Here’s a brief Synopsis by ImageComics.com:
“Red is one of hundreds shanghaied out of Portland in the late 1800s. Drugged, kidnapped, and sold to a ship’s captain, she wakes up on a boat headed out to sea for years, unable to escape or even reveal who she truly is. Now she’s coming back in a boat covered in blood to find her family and track down the men responsible for stealing her life out from under her. Eisner-nominated writer CHRISTOPHER SEBELA (High Crimes, Heartthrob, We(l)come Back), JOSHUA HIXSON (The Black Woods) and HASSAN OTSMANE-ELHAOU (Felix & Macabber) bring you a tale of revenge, family, and identity that stretches from the deck of a ship outside Shanghai all the way to the bleak streets and secret tunnels of Portland, Oregon.”
CHRSTOPER SEBELA knows exactly what he’s doing. This is an amazing first issue to a comic. Shanghai will leave you wanting more. Usually, with a first issue you have some sort of twist at the very end to make you want to read the next issue but not this time. SEBELA decide to throw the curve ball into play within the first 3 pages! Even with that, the story still strings you allowing making every panel a delight to read.
It is also necessary to tip our hats off to JOSHUA HIXSON and HASSAN OTSMANE-ELHAOU for bringing in a Afterlife With Archie or even a Kill or Be Killed feel to the story. Knowing exactly where to make scenes dark and morbid, to even going as far as making colors as vibrate when it comes to parting ways with some of our crew members. With these creative team behind this comic, it feels like this could be a HUGE cult classic in the making.
Needless to say, you need to pick up this comic. Image Comic’s Shanghai Red throws any pirate story cliche right out the window making this issue original and fun. In fact, but this on your pull because you’re guaranteed to love this comic!
