Could An Old Republic Become A New Knight?

Could the Game of Thrones creators be making their Star Wars movies based on the “KOTOR” video games?

Recently announced, Game of Thrones creators David Benoiff and D.B. Weiss, will be making a series of Star Wars movies. And that’s pretty much all that we know. At this point it’s all speculation and theories about when they will be set in the Star Wars timeline, and what they will be about. Will it be inside or outside the Skywalker saga? Or will it be a completely new story set in the SWEU?; as the talk is that Rian Johnson’s new trilogy will be completely apart from anything Skywalker as well.

One such theory is that they will be making movies based on the amazing video games, ‘Knights of the Old Republic” and “Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords”. Two amazing games, which, if you haven’t played, you need to. That being said, movies set in this era of the Star Wars universe would be absolutely amazing, and would open up a whole new world of stories and tales about the iconic saga.

‘KOTOR’ is set 4000 years before the events of ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’, and is centered around a dark Sith Lord named Darth Malak, and the war he rages against the Republic. You can take the path of the Light Side or the Dark Side, as you start out as a Jedi and the choices you make shape your character and your story. With that, the possibilities of the stories they could tell would be absolutely amazing and endless.

Yes there are Sith, and Jedi, and lightsabers, and a plethora of characters and creatures, but it is also in an era before there were Stromtroopers, or Vader, or the Emporer. While it would take some adjusting to watch stories about this timeframe in the Star Wars world, a world without Luke, or the Empire as we know it, it would lead to so many great movies that would introduce us to new favorite heroes and villians, to new stories, and new visions of our favorite galaxy.

Clearly this is all just theoretical, but it could lead to something great that doesn’t rely on Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader to draw us in. It would give fans, whether old or new, a chance to go in without any prejudices on whether it’s “too much like the originals”, or “way to different from the originals”, or “that’s not Han Solo”. It would be a chance to see something different and new, giving us a doorway into a whole other universe or galaxy, so to speak.

I’m very excited for these movies, and knowing that they will be created by the Game of Thrones creators, it speaks volumes as to how good they can be. ‘GOT’ fans and ‘SW’ alike should be excited for these new movies. Of course everyone will most likely be skeptical, considering so much focus has been on box office performance and on whether or not the movies are true to the Star Wars lore, or the fact so many people hinge their thoughts and opinions on what they read, not what they actually see, Benoiff and Weiss have a pretty tall order in front of them. But if there is any truth to the rumors that the movies are based on the classic video games, we are in for a real treat. Go play the games, and you will see what I mean. Rick Barry Authentic Jersey
