With all the controversy surrounding Rian Johnson’s take on the Star Wars saga in general, and Rey’s lineage specifically, I can’t help but question whether Rey is, in fact, “nobody” as Kylo Ren suggested. Fan theories abound; here’s another:
For those familiar with the greater canon, you know there were other, incredibly powerful Jedi Masters from the time of the Clone Wars. One was so powerful he’d mastered a Force ability few other Jedi even possessed; Pyschometry – the ability to garner information about people or events through physical touch, upon which this Jedi experienced Force visions of the events associated with the object touched.
This Jedi Master is also one of the few Jedi (aside from perhaps Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader) to succumb to the Dark Side and return to the Light. Though not (yet) discussed in canon, it’s believed that he survived the Jedi Purge of Order 66.
Now to Rey…. She already exhibits strong connections with the Force with her innate skills and piloting. (A red herring to an implied Skywalker lineage, perhaps?) Her abilities were only awakened, however, when she physically touched Anakin/Luke’s lightsaber and had her first psychometric experience. Importantly, the voices she hears in her Force visions aren’t those of any Skywalker, but of Kenobi and Yoda, two Jedi Masters strongly associated with the other Jedi I describe above. Her Force powers also seem to grow each time she encounters Kylo Ren and the Dark Side; Rey is seemingly able to wield both the Dark, and Light sides of the Force.
That being said, I leave you with this to ponder: Rey is neither Skywalker, nor Solo, nor Kenobi. Rey is the lineal descendent of one of the more power Jedi of the Clone War era, being either the direct or indirect offspring of….
Jedi Master Quinlan Vos.
