Cameras are set to roll next month on the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel and as that date draws near, Marvel Studios is looking to round out the cast. Back in March, we broke the news that they were searching for an 18-24-year-old male lead of any ethnicity to play a high school student opposite Tom Holland. Recent rumors have Alistair Smythe appearing in the film, and while we can’t verify that’s who this character will be, we know he will not be the only new student joining the sequel. Marvel Studios is currently casting for an additional 3 high school students to tag along with Peter, Ned and MJ as they head to Europe.
In addition to the new male lead (a role which we believe may have already been given to an unidentified 19-year old actor, but were unable to confirm), Parker will be joined by the following new characters:
- An 18-22 year old ethnicity to play a gender non-conforming student.
- An 18-26 year old actress of any ethnicity, preferably a character actor or comedienne.
- An 18-25 year old male, to play a high school senior named “JASON” who is described as “charming and insanely likable.”
The modernization of Peter and his classmates makes it incredibly difficult to determine who these characters may be. They could be versions of some of Peter’s classic comic book classmates, or Marvel Studios could also be using the opportunity to introduce some other characters from the comics who may not necessarily be part of the Spidey catalog. Spider-Man: Homecoming introduced us to a slew of Peter’s schoolmates at Midtown School of Science and Technology in MJ, Ned Leeds, Flash Thompson, Liz Allan, Betty Brant, Sally Avril, Cindy, Abraham, Jason Ionello, Tiny McKeever, Charlie Murphy and Seymour O’Reilly. Despite all those students already on board, there are plenty of other Midtown students of note, such as Laurie Lynton, Andy Maguire and Clayton Cole, who could join the crew in the sequel. Of course there’s always the possibility that these students aren’t from Midtown, but from other schools which also happen to be on the same trip. Whatever, the case, we’ll start to learn more about them all fairly soon.
