Only days before the release of Halloween’s teaser trailer, USA Today releases some set photos of David Gordon Green’s reboot of Halloween. The much anticipated return of Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode to the universe of unstoppable Michael Myers has people hoping for an amazing re-entry to the Halloween mythos. In an interesting twist of events, this October 2018 release will have Laurie Strode trained and ready with anticipation for the return of Myers to Haddonfield for a brutal showdown.
Here is a brief summary of the teaser brought to us by comicbook.com from CinemaCon,
“Filmmakers are “here to investigate” the events of Halloween in 1978. They approach Michael Myers in prison. They show him his mask and every prisoner around starts lashing out. The teenage granddaughter’s friends discuss Laurie, each has a version of the true story which happened years later. Laurie tells a police officer she has prayed that Michael Myers would escape, so she could kill him. She has a dummy which she uses for target practice. The prison bus crashes and Michael Myers escapes. He approaches a woman in a gas station and drops bloody teeth over the stall. He puts his mask on. The Halloween classic music begins as he goes through a town on Halloween night, with real weapons. Laurie rushes the kids to go home, shoots at him through a window, and it was only a reflection. Chaos ensues. Laurie tells the filmmakers they should believe in the boogeyman. Later, a babysitter tries to close a closet door for a kid, and it won’t close. It bursts open and Michael Myers is there with a knife.”
With producer Jason Blum backing the project, Halloween will grab from not only it’s original 1978 John Carpenter story, but also touch into current horror phenomenons such as Making A Murder and Serial.“Someone has to bring a modern audience into a 40-year old movie,” Jamie Lee Curtis tells USA Today. Laurie Strode will not only be fighter for her life in this movie but also to protect her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak). “We’re being very honest and truthful about that, how it would affect the upbringing of her daughter, who has a lot of conflicts because of her mother’s obsession with this incident, and her granddaughter, who’s trying to connect with Laurie”, David Gordon Green says.
Diving back into a fake documentary style movie, much like Paranormal Activity or As Above So Below, who better to overlook this movie than the king of Horror in Hollywood, Jason Blum. Even John Carpenter cosigned on the new installment onboarding as an Executive Producer, and Composer. This style of film could either make or break what the feel of the original Halloween was. A high tension, suspenseful, slasher film. Even with the power house team of Carpenter and Blum, this feels like it maybe stretch a little too far.
