Toy giant Hasbro has officially purchase Power Rangers for $522 million dollars! This comes after Hasbro became the official toy merchandiser for the beloved franchise. Now Hasbro has full control over the Power Rangers property that along with the toys includes entertainment, games and all other assets. Now I know there might be some apprehension on this acquisition because I had some myself! With this purchase will the Power Rangers we know and love cease to exist from it’s original flavor or with the backing of such an enormous company will Power Rangers regain its kingdom status of the 90’s?
We have seen Power Rangers trade hands over the years. When Saban sold the franchise to Disney and we got some great and not so great seasons from Wild Force all the way to RPM. One of my personal favorites was Power Rangers Ninja Storm. After that we got the Neo-Saban Era starting with Samurai to Megafarce oops I mean Megaforce, the amazing Dino Charge and now ending the Neo-Saban Era with the not so hot in my eyes Ninja Steel.
My hope is that Hasbro gets Power Rangers and KEEPS Power Rangers and does not do away with it like Disney. Now I know you are probably asking the question, “What about Saban?”
Haim Saban in an interview stated that, “25 years after launching Power Rangers, I believe the future for this brand has never been greater. Hasbro’s leadership in innovation, storytelling and brand stewardship makes it the perfect company to further develop the global reach and appeal of the Power Rangers property. I look forward to working with Brian (Hasbro’s CEO) and the team in the years to come.” (Saban will now work in an advisory role with Hasbro)
What will the Hasbro Ranger Generation mean for the new upcoming Power Rangers Beast Morphers? Another positive note is that Hasbro is connected to Paramount, so could we get a Power Rangers movie sequel? Or will Hasbro go full throttle and go back to the drawing board and create their own Ranger franchise. Another option is the chance for a Power Rangers animated series which fans have been clamoring for as long as Power Rangers has existed.
Finally, with Hasbro owning Transformers could we see a live action movie crossover? The Dino Megazord vs Optimus Prime! I am all game for it if Michael Bay is far, far away with not having anything to do with it at all.
