With upcoming films like Deadpool 2, New Mutants, and Dark Phoenix, 20th Century Fox is making sure that they go out with a bang should the merger with Disney be approved. After a couple of release date changes, Shane Black’s The Predator will be terrorizing our theaters come September 14th of this year, just in time for the Halloween season. Black had a supporting role in the original film which also starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jesse Ventura and Carl Weathers. The 2018 release will be the fourth film in the series, but as with the Halloween reboot, it will actually take place between the events of 1990’s Predator 2, and 2010’s Predators;
“From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.”
The synopsis and trailer doesn’t promise anything new, and follows the template of recent films like Rampage, and Alien: Covenant. I’ll let you guys be the judge.
As you can see the trailer promises mayhem, and a cast full of your geek pop culture favorites. Directed by Shane Black (Iron Man 3), the film stars Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Jacob Tremblay (The Room), Olivia Munn (X-Men Apocalypse), Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele), Sterling K. Brown (Black Panther), Yvonne Strahovsky (Dexter), Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones), and Thomas Jane (The Punisher).
