EXCLUSIVE: Character Breakdowns Reveal ‘Jessica Jones’ Season 3 Villain

The sophomore season of Jessica Jones was just barely in the rear view mirror when Netflix gave a third season the green light. Season 2 diverged from the typical “sequel” formula and took the core characters along some pretty interesting and surprising paths. The series was well-received by critics and has been one of Netflix’s most consistently watchable Marvel series, so the renewal wasn’t surprising but, as is the norm with these types of announcements, no timetable was given for the return. However, it looks like the creative team behind Jessica Jones has been hard at work and may be getting ready to get back to work soon than we expected as we’ve come across character breakdowns for 4 new additions to the series, including one who we believe will be the Season 3 baddie!

As is always the case with these breakdowns, the characters are typically given code names. For instance, new additions to Jessica Jones Season 2 were “DR. KIRBY”, “PRESLEY”, “OLIVER” and “INGRID.” Those ended up being Dr. Karl Malus, Pryce Chang, Oscar and Inez, and therein lies another problem inherent to trying decipher these breakdowns: Jessica doesn’t have a huge supporting cast, so the writers are creating a lot of new characters. With all the in mind, let’s take a look at the new additions for Season 3 and see what Jessica might find herself up against!

[ELLIOTT]Mid 30s-early 40s, male, open ethnicity. Must be over 5’11. A charismatic gambler and alcoholic. Attractive, quick-witted and dry. His edgy charm comes through even in the direst circumstances. SERIES REGULAR – ONE YEAR DEAL

[COLLINS]30-50, male, open ethnicity. He is physically spry, extremely intelligent and meticulous. Driven by a pathological need to feel superior. SERIES REGULAR – ONE YEAR DEAL

[KEIRA]48-52, female, please submit African American, Latina, Asian, Native American, etc. A bohemian cellist and music professor. Intelligent, wry and sexy. Self possessed and able to weather any storm. SERIES REGULAR – POSSIBLE TWO YEAR DEAL

[ZELDA]27-31, female, African American, strong, smart and driven. A rising star in her profession with the ambition and talent to propel her to the top one day. She’s earthy, beautiful, supportive and fiercely protective of those she loves. SERIES REGULAR – MULTI-YEAR DEAL

This is a particularly interesting set of characters given the fact that the two female characters have options to return for future seasons. Not only does this tell us that we can already start looking forward to Jessica Jones Season 4, but it also indicates that at least part of these womens’ stories are going to carry on across multiple seasons. Let’s take a look at who these new series regulars might be. Remember, the real story here is the breakdowns; these are all just fun guesses at some characters that might show up, but are just as likely to be wrong as right.

“Collins”-Curtiss Jackson, the Power Broker

The experiments of Karl Malus and IGH have been central to the plots of the first two seasons and if “COLLINS” were to be Curtiss Jackson, it would allow a natural progression of that arc. In the comics, Jackson opens Power Broker Inc., a company that augments the strength and abilities of those willing to pay for it. Malus worked for Jackson and the two also performed experiments on those who were already powered.

With the number of powered people in the Netflix corner of the universe increasing, it doesn’t seem too far-fetched to imagine part of the third season’s focus being on the powering up of everyday people. One POSSIBLE story line from the comics that might be interesting to see done on screen could be the powering up of members of the Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation, an organization full of wrestlers who had been augmented by the Power Broker!

“Elliot”-Edward Garner

If we are going to see the UCWF brought to the screen, it would follow that we might see its founder and that is Edward Garner. Gardner was a wrestling promoter who founded the UCWF as a way to take advantage of the fascination with individuals with superhuman strength. UCWF featured matches including such characters as The Thing, Melissa Gold (Screaming Mimi/Songbird), Sharon Ventura (Ms. Marvel/She-Thing) and Dennis Dunphy (D-Man). While we know we won’t be seeing Ben Grimm reintroduced to the world via a Netflix series, we could easily seem some lesser known characters pulled from the comics.

“Zelda”

Should we see the UCWF in Season 3, the breakdown for “Zelda” sure sounds like someone who could be a part of it. I don’t have anyone from the comics in mind and of course it’s possible that “Zelda” is an original character developed by Melissa Rosenberg and crew.

“KIERA”

As with “Zelda” and so many other characters from the first two seasons, “Kiera” could be a character created for the show. It’s a pretty specific description and the character has an option to return for another season, so we can probably expect “Zelda” to play a major role.

Although there is no timeline for the third season, these breakdowns indicate that filming will likely start very soon. With Luke Cage Season 2 (June 22nd), second seasons of Iron Fist and The Punisher and a third season of Daredevil all ahead in the queue, it will likely be late 2o19 before we see Jessica back on the case unless Marvel TV alters their release schedule and starts pushing out 4 series per year.

Given the character descriptions, what do you think the focus of Jessica Jones Season 3 will be? Who do you think they are? Let us know in the comments!!
