Walt Disney Studios has officially announced that the highly anticipated sequel to Maleficent has begun production at Pinewood Studios and on locations throughout the U.K.. The studio has also announced that the film will be titled Maleficent II. Angleina Jolie and Elle Fanning are set to reprise their respective roles of Maleficent and Aurora.
Our report that Chiwetel Ejiofor joining the cast has also been confirmed. Rounding out the cast is Ed Skrein in an unknown villain role, Michelle Pfeiffer as Queen Ingris, Harry Dickinson who takes over the role of Prince Phillip from Brenton Thwaites, David Gyasi, and Fantastic Beasts Jenn Murray. Additional cast members returning from the 2014 film include: Sam Riley as Diaval, Imelda Staunton ) as the pixie Knotgrass, Juno Temple as the pixie Thistlewit, and Lesley Manville as the pixie Flittle.

A fantasy adventure that picks up several years after “Maleficent,” in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora, “Maleficent II” continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen, as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.
Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales director Joachim Rønning is helming the film from a script a script by Jez Butterworth. Butterworth most recently worked on the script for Disney’s other villain film in development Cruella.
Maleficent 2 currently has no release date set.
