CHILD’S PLAY Reunion At Texas Frightmare

The Child’s Play series is seeing a resurgence that is typically rare in the horror film industry. Sure, horror films tend to churn out sequel after sequel, but they tend to go down in quality, losing the magic of the first film. After the disaster that was 2004’s Seed of Chucky, it appeared that the series had finally run its course. The big horror franchises from the 80’s were having a hard time keeping their heads above water for the new generation while they had to compete with meta horror (Scream), found footage (Paranormal Activity), and “torture porn” (anything involving Eli Roth). Flashforward to 9 years later when Curse of Chucky was released direct to home video for the first time in its 25 year history. The film was a critical and financial success, and more importantly its fanbase was ecstatic that Curse of Chucky captured the mood and spirit of Child’s Play 1 & 2. A seventh film, Cult of Chucky  would follow 4 years later to similar reviews. It is now very clear that Chucky has found new success in home video. While we don’t have any updated news yet on the follow up to ‘Cult’, we do know that some of our favorite talent from these films have been touring the horror convention circuit.

This weekend is the 13th year of Texas Frightmare and the guest list is stacked with horror icons such as Clive Barker, Tobin Bell, Doug Bradley, Adrienne Barbeau, and Kane Hodder. Plus they also have Matthew Lillard, the cast of 2017’s Itand Ron Pearlman. And of course if you’re a Chucky fan then you’re in for a treat;

Writer of all seven films, and creator of Child’s Play Don Mancini posted a reunion pic at the convention also featuring Brad Dourif (Charles Lee Ray, and voice of Chucky), his daughter Fiona Dourif (Nica Pierce), Kevin Yahger (Chucky doll creator), Christina Elise (Kyle), Catherine Hicks (Karen Barclay), and last, but not least Alex Vincent

(Andy Barclay). This reunion pic is only 95% perfect since we’re missing Jennifer Tilly who plays the breakout hit character “Tiffany”. It’s interesting that each actor featured here all have characters that are currently living (eh maybe not Nica), and Catherine Hicks is the only actor that we haven’t seen in any of the sequels unless you count her picture. So hopefully we will finally find out what happened to Andy’s mother after being briefly mentioned in Child’s Play 2 in the next Child’s Play film.

Texas Frightmare continues today, and ends tomorrow at 6pm.
