STAR WARS: Colin Trevorrow Finally Explains Episode IX Exit

Remember back in 2016 when it was announced that STAR WARS: EPISODE IX was going to be directed by Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow? From there on forward not a lot more was mentioned other than Trevorrow finished his script and actually showed it to George Lucas and Mark Hamill to see what they thought of his idea. And then like that, POOF! He was let go due to creative differences. This has now became a normal thing with Disney and Lucasfilm. The first instance was when Josh Trank was let go from a Boba Fett film and then Tony Gilroy basically took over for Gareth Edwards and helped him with Rogue One, and of course last years firing of Phil Lord and Chris Miller on SOLO. After Trevorrow was let go Lucasfilm wasted no time at all and quickly hired Force Awakens director JJ Abrams. Since then only a few details have been leaked about Trevorrow’s script. We know Mark Hamill loved it and he went as far as to say he wished Trevorrow never got fired. Kathleen Kennedy is seen as the STAR WARS gatekeeper and it;s said she did not where Trevorrow wanted to take Luke Skywalker and wanted him to stick to Rian Johnsons plot from the Last Jedi.

Well now Trevorrow has finally revealed what happened and he said he has no mistakes about what happened.

“I don’t want to talk too much about it because I don’t want to affect the way that fans get to see these films,” he told the publication.

“When we were kids, these movies came to us from far away. They were a gift. And the more we talk about how they’re made, the more it reveals that they’re just movies. But they’re not just movies, they’re more than that.

“Beyond that, I got the opportunity to tell a story that is a celebration of everything I believe in, I got to tell it to George Lucas and I got to tell it to Luke Skywalker, and those are experiences I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

Well put and very classy. I’ll always wonder what a Star Wars film directed by Trevorrow would have looked like. From the details that Hamill gave back in December, Luke was going to have a bigger role in Episode IX and now we’ll never know.
