Yesterday we shared exclusive details regarding Paramounts Sonic The Hedgehog film. Now today we have an update to share, which includes some big name comedic actors up for a leading role and a production start date.
First, we have now learned that Jason Segal, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, and Ed Helms are all being considered for the lead role of Tom, A sarcastic highway patrol cop who befriends Sonic a hyperactive off the walls hedgehog and will likely team up to takedown the evil Robotnik.
Paramount has reached out to us and says that Paul Rudd is no longer in the running for the role of Tom.
We have also learned the live-action/CGI hybrid film will begin shooting July 30th in Vancouver and is expected to wrap late October, with a budget of $90 million. The plot is currently being kept under wraps
Jeff Fowler will make his directorial debut on the film from a script by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller (Transylmania, 12 Deadly Days). Deadpool helmer Tim Miller is on board as a producer.
SEGA first introduced Sonic in 1991, with the character being seen as the company’s answer to rival Nintendo’s leading man Mario. Sonic, along with friends Tails and Knuckles, likes to spend his time running around, collecting rings, while also thwarting the evil plans of villain Doctor Eggman Robotnik. The video game series has sold more than 360 million copies.
