First thing is first, I personally loved Star Wars The LAST Jedi. There was a couple things I could have done without but besides that I loved it. Now other fans hated everything about it one thing in particular and it’s actually one of the moments I hated was the unexpected death of fan favorite Admiral Ackbar. In the film he’s blown into space along with Leia and the rest of the main bridge of the resistance ship. Johnson gave no real mention of Ackbars passing which I felt was wrong at the time. Admiral Ackbar has been a huge fan favorite ever since the Empire Strikes Back so when JJ Abrams broughT back Ackbar in The Force Awakens it was a pleasant surprise.
Ask and you shall receive guys. In the latest issue of The Last Jedi comic, Admiral Ackbar finally gets the send off he truly deserved. Written by Gary Whitta and illustrated by both Michael Walsh and Mike Spicer, Star Wars: The Last Jedi #2 ends Ackbar’s life in a manner faithful to what audiences were used to seeing. However, just before First Order torpedoes hit the bridge of the Admiral’s ship, he says the following: “It’s been an honor serving with you all.”
This new dialogue is simple and powerful at the same time. It’s what we should have gotten in the actual film and it’s a shame that fixing all the wrongs in comics and novels is becoming more and more the normal thing. These last words should finally satisfy all the Last Jedi haters and let them move on. Thanks to Gary Whitta one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars Universe finally can go out on top. Now here’s hoping that Whitta completely acts like the whole Canto Bight sequence never happened. Avery Bradley Jersey
