EXCLUSIVE: Power Rangers’ Patricia Ja Lee Wasn’t Originally Cast As Cassie

Power Rangers Turbo was a season of change when veteran Rangers Jason David Frank, Johnny Yong Bosch, Nakia Burrise, and Catherine Sutherland left the show and brought in a new cast to fill their legendary shoes. Amongst the new additions to the team were Patricia Ja Lee and Tracy Lynn Cruz. Cruz had appeared on the show in a bit part as teenager Ashley, that would often be see at the Juice Bar. We recently caught up with the lovely Tracy Lynn Cruz where she took question from the Power Rangers fan community.

During the interview Tracy told THS that her co-star Patricia Ja Lee wasn’t the original choice to play Cassie, the Pink Turbo Ranger which came as a surprise to us. Here’s what Cruz had to say:

When Patti (Patricia Ja Lee) came in, I don’t know if your viewers know this, she came in after somebody else was already hired. Yeah, there had been another Pink Ranger, but something happened before she had been established so they hired Patti and, yup.

During the new Turbo Rangers early days it was also discussed at Saban of having Tracy’s character Ashley play the Pink Turbo Ranger instead of Yellow, but in the end Tracy would become the Yellow Turbo Ranger. All-in-all we’re happy that Patricia Ja Lee ended up playing Cassie Chan in Power Rangers Turbo and In Space. It’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role. Patricia has recently made an appearance back in the Power Rangers universe reprising the role of Cassie on Power Rangers Super Megaforce for the 20th anniversary of the show. With the 25 anniversary of the show right around the corner there are rumors of a member of the Power Rangers in Space team coming back to the show. Who that Ranger is, you’ll just have to wait and see.
