Preview: Coda #2 – And The Pentacorn Spoke Thus

If you were one of the patrons that helped sell out Coda #1 you know how amazing this story is. If you have not checked out the new critically-acclaimed broken fantasy epic by BOOM! Studios, then strap in for a mind trip. From the mind of Eisner-nominated writer Simon Spurrier (Sandman, The Spire) and Matías Bergara (Cannibal, Supergirl) comes a fever dream that is compelling and hilarious.

Told from the point of view of Hum a former bard as letters to his beloved wife, whose soul he is trying to save, we see two truths unfold. The first is what he writes down to tell his wife about his journey. The second is what we see unfold on the pages of his story.

In this second issue, we are told

“a dangerous person from Hum’s past has returned. Now he’s bound, blindfolded and sent into exile on the back of Nag, his loyal Pentacorn. Things don’t seem like they can get worse for Hum…until they get much worse.”

Also Eric Harburn, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios praised the book by stating

“If you liked the craziness that Si and Matias cooked up in the first issue of CODA, you’re gonna love where they take the story next – though Hum might think otherwise, It’s exciting to see readers, retailers, and press all embrace the exciting new world created within the pages of this series, and it’s the team’s goal to make every issue more surprising than the last.”

Actually, I can’t write what Nag the Pentacorn speaks, because it only shouts expletives. And that is just one of the quirky aspects of this book that makes it refreshing. I can’t wait to pick up the next issue which hits stores on 6/13. In the meantime please enjoy the following five-page preview and variant covers by Lee Garbett (Skyward) and Chris Wildgoose (Batgirl)
