Freeze all motor functions… Analysis.
We haven’t even reached “The Valley Beyond” (much less know what it really is) and Westworld has already been renewed for a third season. Casey Bloys, president of HBO Programming has announced that the network will definitely be bringing the show “back online”.
From their press release: “It’s been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew,” noted Bloys. “From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us.”
Once “The Door”, Season 2, has been closed shut, don’t expect to see Season 3 in a handful of months. “It’s an ongoing conversation with our friends at HBO, and for us, with a show of this scope and scale, we’re not interested in doing the compromised version. We want the show to get bigger and bigger and more ambitious and this takes time. We want to take all the time we need to get it right,” Nolan told in an interview with EW.
This, of course, refers back to the 18-month break between Seasons 1 and 2. So although we are confirmed for more existential crises between humans and androids in a third season, we should expect showrunners, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, to put Westworld in a “deep and dreamless slumber” while they ante up on the narrative.
Though that would be another grueling wait, I can appreciate the intent and care that Nolan and Joy are putting into each contained season and the overall arc of the series. Let’s hope this allows for more exploration into other parks.
