Today Valiant Entertainment and Sony pictures announced that Vin Diesel will be playing Bloodshot in the yet untitled comic book adaptation.
Deadline is reporting that the film has already hired it’s director in Dave Wilson. Wilson was a long time collaborator with Deadpool’s Tim Miller who’s next set to direct Terminator 6.
The Arrival’s writer Eric Heisserer is currently writing the Bloodshot script and the word is that the film will be a homage to classic 80’s action films like Total Recall and Robocop. So expect a rated R bloody action film, and I’m all for that.
Bloodshot already has Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, Kingsman) on board as an executive producer. Vin Diesel is also reunited with his Fast and the Furious producer Neal H. Moritz, who is producing along with Toby Jaffe and Dinesh Shamdasani. Dan Mintz is also serving as an executive producer, and Andrea Giannetti will oversee for Sony.
The film is set to begin production in July.
I’m not sure there is a high demand for a Bloodshot film but Sony is fast-tracking this film maybe since they have no new superhero films in the upcoming year.
When Valiant announced the film last month they described Bloodshot as:
Bloodshot is a central character in the Valiant Expanded Universe, composed of thousands of characters embodying various genres, tones, and demographic groups — ordinary people in extraordinary situations rather than gods and demi-gods.
The Bloodshot series, comprised of more 110 issues with more than 7.5 million copies sold, centers on Ray Garrison, aka Bloodshot. Brought back from the dead by Rising Spirit Technologies through the use of nanotechnology and suffering total memory loss, Ray struggles to reconnect with who he was while learning what sort of weapon he has become, with the help of a group of other augmented combatants (called Chainsaw).
